About

WO=MEN (pronounced women equals men), the Dutch Gender Platform, is a network association of almost 70 organizations and individuals who have committed themselves to equal participation of women and men worldwide. The = sign in WO=MEN, stands for global genderjustice!

Background
Over ten years ago, the Fourth World Conference on women’s rights took place in Beijing. The evaluation of Beijing +10 showed that despite many promises, the realization of women’s rights fell short of commitments made by governments and organizations. An increasing concern with the legacy of Beijing motivated a group of Dutch NGO’s to join forces in a platform called “Beijing +10, time for action.” This temporary coalition led to a more structural cooperation of over 30 organizations and individuals working internationally for gender equality and women’s rights, which took shape in WO=MEN. Three years after the launch of the platform the number of members has more than doubled, a figure demonstrating the relevance of our work towards uniting our members in their struggle for genderjustice. WO=MEN works together with several international partners to link our activities to global developments.

What WO=MEN stands for

  • WO=MEN aims to increase attention and raise awareness about gender and women’s rights with the Dutch government, politicians, development organizations and other social actors and to hold them accountable to fulfilling their commitments towards genderjustice.
  • To include and link a variety of actors working towards genderjustice, to facilitate their exchange and cooperation in order to create a united voice for genderjustice. In doing so we give special attention to including the perspectives of youth, men and migrant organizations.
