SDG5 Tool: Experience Room

WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform creates awareness about SDG 5 among the Dutch public. We do this, among other things, by paying attention to SDG 5 at festivals and fairs. At such meetings, we use the SDG 5 experience room as an innovative SDG 5 awareness tool.

The aim of this physical installation is to make visitors aware of the different roles, gender roles and stereotyping of women and men. In addition, the installation contributes to awareness of one's own ideas about gender equality in the context of the work-care division. In this way, participants can experience what gender equality means in daily practice.

In the installation, the visitor gets a glimpse into the head of a man and a woman, through different stories. The stories briefly cover a multitasking mother, co-parenting, single parenting, a man who gives pocket money to his wife, a divorced couple who split everything 50/50 and a man who only works. All visitors to the events are part of the target group and in particular low-educated women and/or women with a low income.

This installation was developed as part of a set of tools to help reach the SDG5 goal, Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. In order to help achieve SDG5, WO=MEN forms new partnerships and develops tools, including the Gender Facts Game, the employer tool and this experience room.
