Climate change and the loss of biodiversity reinforce the context in which armed conflict can occur; crop failure, water scarcity and pollution weigh heavily on a society. The climate crisis and related armed conflicts exacerbate existing gender inequalities. Conversely, gender inequality, whereby women and men do not have equal access to food, water and natural resources, is also a root cause of armed conflict. This summer, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published an alarming report on the state of the climate. The urgency to discuss this issue is becoming more and more evident.

With the experience of COP26 and the climate marches fresh in our minds, we will explore the nexus from different perspectives and disciplines during the general assembly.
