Date: 05-11-2021
Time: 14:00 – 15:30 CET
Location: online

A hybrid COP26 event featuring youth activists and world leaders discussing how quality climate education can help tackle the climate crisis.

About this event
This event will be live streamed via YouTube. A link will be sent to all attendees ahead of the event.

Quality climate education has the potential to help communities better withstand the effects of climate change — and also reduce the rate and impact of global warming.

But in too many countries, students are not learning the information and skills they need to adapt to and challenge the climate crisis.

COP26 provides leaders with the opportunity to commit to delivering gender-responsive climate education for all.

Ahead of the ministerial summit on climate education, this event will bring together youth activists, world leaders and experts to discuss how to ensure every student learns the knowledge, skills, values and commitment to action they need to fight for gender and climate justice. It will highlight how climate change is exacerbating the inequalities girls face and emphasise the role of girls’ education in tackling the climate crisis.

Building on the Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action (2019), the MOCK COP26 Treaty (2020) and outcomes from Youth4Climate 2021, this event will focus on the review and enhancement of the Doha Work Programme on Action for Climate Empowerment and other processes within the UNFCCC framework.

This event is hosted by EmpoderaClima, the Global Partnership for Education, Malala Fund, Plan International, Rise UP Movement, Transform Education (hosted by UNGEI), UNGEI, UNICEF, and YOUNGO.
