What is the conference about?
The #SHEcurity initiative (Twitter – Instagram) launched in 2020 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of UN resolution 1325 on "Women, Peace and Security”. The campaign takes stock of the advancement of women in peace and security.

This year, the #SHEcurity index will be extended: both regarding the number of countries covered and additional key topics to increase diversity in security and foreign policy.

Panel discussion: Beyond "women” (13.30-15h CET)

Diversity starts with our understanding of how we define "women”, and goes beyond the topic of women’s representation. In the field of Peace and Security, other groups are also under-represented, for example People of Colour or members of the LGBTQI+ community. We want to discuss how to improve the situation.

  • Sahar Moazami, United Nations Program Officer, Outright International
  • Anastasia Biefang, Vice-Chairperson, Working Group for Homosexual Members of the German army; Battalion Commander in the Bundeswehr
  • Shalonda Spencer, MPPA, Executive Director, Women of Colour Advancing Peace & Security
Moderator: Deborah Haynes

Panel discussion: Beyond representation (15.30-17h CET)

Numeric parity does not necessarily translate to equal access to power & resources or meaningful inclusion. Systemic, structural as well as socio-cultural barriers persist. How can we address this issue?

  • Kristina Lunz, Co-Founder and Germany Co-Executive Director, Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy
  • Dr. Marufa Akter, Consultant, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, Bangladesh, a Member Think Tank of the Southern Voice network
  • Ambika Vishwanath, Co-Founder, Kubernein Initiative
  • Ariela Blätter, President and CEO, WIIS Global
Moderator: Teri Schultz
