In Trouw, journalist Isabel Baneke writes about Traces, a documentary by Alisa Kovalenko and Marysia Nikitiuk.
Traces is about six Ukrainian women who have been sexually abused by Russian soldiers. The documentary follows the local efforts of SEMA, an international network initiated by the Mukwege Foundation of survivors of sexual violence that promotes solidarity among these victims, collects testimonies, and draws attention to this type of violence in armed conflicts. SEMA notices what other women's organizations also conclude: this type of warfare is not a priority on political agendas.
