Atria Book Club on Men who Engage by Ivan Jablonka

Date: 07-03-2022
Time: 19:15
Location: Atria library

Reading club in the context of International Women's Day and V/M solidarity led by Michiel van der Padt of The Feminist Man.

Which writers have laid the foundations for feminism today? And which recent feminist publications are a must read?

In the Atria Book Club we go back to the pioneers who formulated feminist insights we still refer to today. And we discuss books by contemporary writers who can inspire and move us. The books will cover topics such as race and colonialism, gender and sexuality, love and relationships, aging, politics and activism.

Attendees are invited to dive into a new (or old) book together on the first Monday of every month. The books are chosen by the evening's alternating hosts. In an intimate setting, passages are read aloud, questions asked, and insights shared about how we look at these texts and what we can gain from them. The bar will be open and popcorn plentiful!

Men Who Engage - Ivan Jablonka
In this episode of Atria's Book Club, we discuss the book by historian, professor, author and feminist Ivan Jablonka. The book describes the role men play in maintaining patriarchal systems and the role they can play in creating new forms of masculinity. Jablonka makes a plea for men to engage in a society where people are not oppressed and a masculinity with guts to engage in a just world.

This edition of the Atria Book Club is accompanied by Michiel van der Padt of The Feminist Man.

International Women's Day
This special edition of the Atria Book Club takes place on the eve of International Women's Day and is dedicated to V/M solidarity. We think it is important that a diverse audience participates in this reading club. Therefore, we encourage anyone who identifies as a woman to bring a brother, uncle, friend or acquaintance.
