CSW68 Parallel event: Breaking the chain of violence through economic empowerment

Date: 15-03-2024
Time: 2:30pm - 4:00pm (EDT) / 19:30 - 21:00 (CET)
Location: Chapel, CCUN Building, New York

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a structural problem that exists in all layers of society. However, poverty can enhance a woman’s vulnerability and exposure to violence. Simultaneously, GBV compounds other gender inequalities and is a significant contributor to multiple and complex social issues.

This event will delve into the context in which women’s support services, such as shelters or helplines, operate. We will highlight the global nature of the challenges women face, but also pay attention to the specific problems and measures in different parts of the world. Taking into account the diverse perspectives of different speakers and panelists, we hope to gain understanding about the nuances and complexities of the ties between poverty and GBV. Furthermore, we aim to learn from the experiences and initiatives undertaken by support services aimed at strengthening women’s economic empowerment and guiding women towards financial independence.
