Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights: the lived realities of LGBTI persons

Date: 17-05-2022
Time: 9 am EDT // 3 PM CEST.
Location: United Nations Headquarters and live streamed at UN Web TV

Following this year’s theme for the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), "Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights”, the United Nations LGBTI Core Group will host an event at UN Headquarters to feature discussions with various stakeholders to speak about the bodily autonomy of LGBTI persons and the full realization of their rights.

The event will highlight best practices when it comes to addressing existing barriers to LGBTI bodily autonomy including policies and regulations aimed at banning so-called conversion practices, unnecessary surgical interventions on intersex children, as well as policies related to health services, such as hormonal therapy, and avenues to gain legal gender recognition to trans persons. Member States, UN Agencies and civil society will also discuss existing challenges and opportunities to promote and protect the rights of LGBTI persons.
