Power to You(th): conversation between political youth parties and African youth activists

Date: 28-05-2022
Time: 10:45-12:00
Location: Raadzaal Royal Tropical Institute

With 75% of the population under the age of 35, Africa is the youngest continent. Young people offer enormous potential for social progress. It is this group of people who advocate for better political representation and more progressive policies. But at the same time, this group of young people faces major challenges. There is high unemployment, about 7 million unplanned pregnancies a year and half of the young people discontinued their sex education due to the pandemic. In the Netherlands, young people also face various challenges. They struggle with study debts, difficult access to the housing market and concerns about the climate.

During this session, representatives of Dutch political youth organisations and young activists from various African countries will discuss various key questions. How has the pandemic influenced civil society discussions? What can these young people learn from each other and how can they support each other? Join the workshop and take part in this discussion!
