YOUTH ENGAGEMENT in partnerships for development
Expert meetup & online film festival.
On 30 June, Cordaid will bring together development professionals and young leaders from all over the world to engage in meaningful partnerships. Interesting discussions on Meaningful Youth Participation will be alternated with the online film festival ‘Young People Behind Cameras’ in which young filmmakers from conflict areas in
Yemen, Iraq, Mali, Uganda and Ethiopia will broadcast their videos.
Young people are the majority in a lot of conflict-affected countries. They are often disproportionately challenged by social, economic and political barriers and through traditional power structures. Engaging youth meaningfully in development, peacebuilding and decision-making allows them to influence the decisions that affect their lives, and therefore creates greater impact. Together with youth leaders, policy advisors and decision makers, we will address these issues in our discussion session and reflect on the films being premiered. Their videos show youth’s perseverance in breaking down barriers of exclusion and fostering social change.
