Women's organizations call on Parliament to take action

2021-06-15

Sexual misconduct - Women in politics should be better protected, write seventeen organizations to the Parliament. The reason is the report that PVV'er Graus is again accused of sexual misconduct.

Women's organizations are "seriously concerned" about the transgressive behavior against female parliamentary and parliament employees and the "extremely inadequate handling" of these reports by the parliamentary groups and by the Dutch parliament.

In a letter sent on Tuesday, seventeen organizations call on the President of the House of Representatives Vera Bergkamp (D66) and the leadership of the parliamentary groups to take action. Women in politics should be better protected, they write under the leadership of women's rights agency Clara Wichmann. Stronger measures must also be taken against the perpetrators. "Sexually transgressive behavior constitutes a serious and unacceptable violation of the fundamental human rights of those involved."
