Show ambition in new EU Gender Equality Strategy

12-08-2025
Together with our members, WO=MEN, Dutch Gender Platform contributed to the call for evidence as input for the next EU Gender Equality Strategy 2026–2030.

This is the moment for the European Union to show leadership and to sustain and reinforce its commitment to gender equality and womens rights, both in European Member States and through its external action. The EU must build on the achievements of the 2020-2025 Gender Equality Strategy and effectively respond to current challenges that threaten hard won rights and freedoms.

Our input outlines 10 key recommendations to ensure an ambitious and effective strategy:

✅ Make gender equality a cross-cutting priority in all EU policies
✅ Ensure sustainable financing for gender equality and feminist movements
✅ Push back against anti-rights movements, democratic erosion, and harmful deregulation
✅ Uphold agreed language on gender and rights
✅ Guarantee full and equal participation in economic, political and public life
✅ Prevent and address gender-based violence online and offline
✅ Address root causes of inequality through an intersectional, rights-based approach
✅ Fully implement the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda
✅ Advance an inclusive and gender-just green transition
✅ Protect sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
