Tijd: 10.30 AM - 12.30 PM (lunch will be provided afterwards)
Locatie: WO=MEN office, Korte Poten 9B, The Hague.

HealthNet TPO, Plan and PAX, in collaboration with WO=MEN, would like to invite you for a discussion on women, peace and security work in South Sudan. The thematic focus of the session centres around the urgent importance to support integrated peacebuilding.

South Sudan is once again sliding towards large-scale conflict - yet this crisis remains dangerously ignored. The 2018 peace deal between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar has been evidently violated, triggering renewed violence and political instability. Without sustained international engagement, support to women and youth leaders of peace and integrated peacebuilding approaches, the country is further sliding back into war. Women and girls in particular are facing the impact of the current humanitarian crisis, facing daily violence and insecurity. In all layers of society, people are traumatised. Traditionally, many communities have held rigid gender roles, often placing women in subordinate positions and limiting their participation in politics, economic and social activities.

Over the last five years, Healthnet TPO, Plan, PAX and their partners in South Sudan have contributed to integrated peacebuilding approaches with complementary expertise. Best practices, lessons learned, challenges faced and critical future needs will be discussed during this session. Each organisation will dive into specific aspects of integrated peacebuilding, including:
  • The need to integrate mental health and psycho-social support into peacebuilding
  • The need to address militarised masculinities as part of peacebuilding and engaging men and boys
  • The need for a gender transformative approach, empowering youth and women leaders to achieve gender equality
We look forward to an insightful and lively panel discussion with South Sudanese presence, coupled with video messages and other visual materials. There will be ample room for engagement with the audience.
