What can we learn from NGO’s working in the water and energy sectors about translating gender equality and social justice principles into organizational practice?
Senem Abak will present the findings of her research on how NGOs, working in the water and energy sectors, integrate gender equality and social justice into their work. The study examines how organizations conceptualize, operationalize and apply the three core dimensions of justice (distributive, recognitional, and procedural justice) in their internal planning, management and external field interventions.
The findings and recommendations from this research offer valuable insights into how NGOs can strengthen the alignment between their internal practices and external advocacy, and provide important lessons for advancing gender equality and social justice in organizational practice.

Senem Abak graduated in physics education and completed her MSc in Computational Science and Engineering, focusing on climate modelling and GHG inventories at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Moving from science-based research to the social and policy dimensions of sustainability, she pursued a second MSc in Environmental and Energy Management at University of Twente, completing a thesis titled "Analysing Water and Energy NGOs under Justice Tenets Through a Gender Lens." She completed a research internship with 75inQ, a member organisation of our network. Currently, she is volunteering with the Twente team of Energy for Refugees.
