Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) is a devastating global phenomenon that especially affects women, girls, and children.  A distinct problem arises when SEA is perpetrated by members of international peacekeeping operations, like in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where UN personnel have committed such crimes.

Failure to address this problem significantly impacts the lives of present and future generations. Reversing the rising tide of violence against women, girls, and children in the country requires tangible solutions.

Delu LUSAMBYA, coordinator of "Jeunes Solutions" Association based in DRC, will present the problem faced by victims of SEA perpetrated by UN personnel in Eastern DRC and how his organisation responds to the problem. This will be an interesting session for everyone working in DRC or working with peacekeeping operations elsewhere. Note: the session will be in English

Delu Lusambya is a PhD researcher at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) and temporarily based in the Hague, working on humanitarian governance in DRC: Reflections on interaction patterns of actors and local engagement in humanitarian governance, under the supervision of Prof. Thea Hilhorst.

Delu is the founder of "Jeunes Solution," a youth organisation based in DRC, whose mission is to rescue vulnerable women from poverty and accompany them in seeking and maintaining peace and sustainable development. Before joining ISS, Delu was an assistant manager at International Amnesty, a people-building coordinator at Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and a project manager for a range of international and national NGOs.
