On Tuesday June 16, CARE Nederland, the Embassy of Sweden in the Netherlands and the Embassy of Canada in the Netherlands welcome you to Women Mean Business. Women Mean Business convenes policy makers, experts and practitioners to bring about the changes needed to support women entrepreneurs in the poorest communities in the world. On this occasion, CARE Nederland presents the Women Mean Business report, highlighting women’s success stories, the pathways to successfully supporting women entrepreneurs and the case for investing in women entrepreneurs. The international expert panel addresses the impact of COVID-19 on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, and discusses next steps in supporting women’s enterprise development in low-income communities.

CARE Nederland is delighted to partner with the Embassy of Sweden in the Netherlands and the Embassy of Canada in the Netherlands in organizing this event. Our partnership with the Embassies builds on our shared, longstanding support for gender equality and Sweden’s feminist foreign policy, our joint involvement in the International Gender Champions network and our successful cooperation organizing an official side event on access to finance for female entrepreneurs for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in 2019. We are pleased to announce that this online event is hosted by H.E. Annika Markovic, Ambassador of Sweden to the Netherlands.

Broadcast from the Swedish Residence in the Hague, and with remote contributions from our international speakers, Women Mean Business is accessible for viewers from across the globe. The panel consists of the following persons:

  • Markus Goldstein, Lead Economist Africa, World Bank
  • Jorim Schraven, Director Impact and ESG, FMO The Entrepreneurial Development Bank
  • Sofia Sprechmann, Secretary General, CARE International
  • Solange Hai, Program Manager at CARE Nederland, will introduce the Women Mean Business report.

The event is hosted by H.E. Annika Markovic, Ambassador of Sweden to the Netherlands, and moderated by Reintje van Haeringen, CEO, CARE Nederland. H.E. Lisa Helfand, Ambassador of Canada to the Netherlands, will provide remarks.
